UNC at Chapel Hill Doesn't Like Christians Apparently

This is a month old, but Newsmax just ran the story so it will likely get mentioned some more...

Last summer UNC got in trouble and embarrassed for mistreatment of Christians. They are at it again by telling a Christian group that it cannot be a Christian group. In other words, they have to let in atheists, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc. etc. Last year Christian groups were told they couldn't restrict officers to Christians. Imagine that!

UNC backed down then.

Will they now?

NJ Governor Quits and Comes Out of the Closet

Story Here.

OK. What to say here? Are we to be glad to see a pro-abortion governor gone? Or are we saddened to see what heart-ache and pain this is going to cause this man's wife and children?

He had to come out and step down because it was going to cause conflicts for the state government? Was someone going to blackmail him? If so, was there something else going on here?

This is why the life issues are so important. This is why being chaste according to your status is so important.

On the other hand, I can also see some made for cable movies made about this man and the courageous choice he has made. All for the glory of homosexuality, never mind if that is why he came out or if he stays with his family. He will become an icon of the left most likely.

Child Porn Seminary In Austria Closed

You may have heard about the seminary in Austria where massive amounts of child pornography was discovered...

Well, Bishop Kung who went to investigate it, has shut it down. There was a blackout of commentary while he investigated, so not a whole lot of news until now. Apparently, the staff, administration and students have been dismissed.

Two questions...

1. Where did they go and will anyone keep tabs on them?

2. How soon can the good Bishop get on a plane to the US?

My Old Take on Achievement

Before becoming Catholic and relearning what success and achievement are, I was very much into the self-development and Positive Mental Attitude stuff. Still am to a degree, though I find that I now spend a lot of time picking over the materials and re-thinking it to conform to my faith. Anyway, I still get these emails with cool motivational quotes/pictures once a week and save most for my background and to use in my screensaver. Here is the latest one:

Notice the quote... The world can only be grasped by action, not by contemplation.

At one time, I would have heartily agreed. Now I don't. This is such a secular humanist approach to the world and how you live in it. I am not saying that you should withdraw to the local monastery. After all we are called to be light and salt. We have to be IN the world, but not OF the world. Had a similar discussion with some people on our parish council about not competing with the world. That's not entirely correct I think. We compete with the world, but on our own terms.

Anyway, my point is that the only reality that really matters can only be grasped by deeper contemplation and ultimately applying what we learn or are led to in the actions we take in the world. The world is not the object of our reaching. Or shouldn't be. We should be reaching for the only Truth, Beauty and Love there is... And that is not a something... That is a SOMEBODY...

Jesus Christ.

In His Name.

Amen.

Archbishop Burke Makes the News Again

Catholic World News is reporting that Archbp. Burke has removed two priests and suspended Mass at a local parish that has adopted an illegal governing structure. Seems that this parish created a non-profit corporation and is run by a lay board of advisors. Well, not advisors. They are like the board of directors. Apparently this happened more than 100 years ago and was at least not directly illegal until the 1917 Code of Canon Law came into effect. The bishops looked the other way the last 87 years.

Not this one.

Archbp. Burke is really setting things straight in his Archdiocese. Rather than let this parish continue in outright defiance of Church law, he has ordered them to come into compliance. They basically said no. So he said no more Masses can be celebrated in this irregular situation. Unfortunately the parish reps claim he is merely after the $9 million in assets that belong to the parish. Burke says it's about the Church not allowing irregular situations to continue.

The interesting thing about this setup is that it's like a protestant church in that the board rules the parish and the priest(s) serve at their discretion. How long until they decided to start voting on doctrines? I don't know, but I do know that this is in defiance of Church authority no matter how you look at it. That alone is enough to try to get this sorted out. The fact that they wouldn't submit to the Bishop suggests they rejected the Apostolic authority of the Church.

My take on this is that someone's personal fiefdom was just stepped on... And they didn't like it. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

The Show Me State Shows `Em!

Missouri voters approve ban on gay "marriage"....

I still worry that the courts will find a way to circumvent all these amendments and laws and lay a smackdown on what used to be the defining institution of Western society. Didn't matter the religious beliefs... Marriage used to be seen as the bedrock you built society on.

Apparently you now must build it on the glorification of all things homosexual, God help us all. And especially those who stand against it.

Kerry Picks Anti-"Under God" Religion Advisor

Got this one off of NewsMax this morning...

Apparently Johnny-boy thinks a religious advisor who insults Christians is OK. Personally, I doubt it matters to people of deep, traditional (read historic and conservative) faith anyway, as they aren't likely to vote for a pro-abort candidate.

Of course this is only marginally better than his previous choice (also courtesy of NM). This one was a real piece of work... Choice quote from that article:

"When in college, Mara was active in the Earlham Socialist Alliance, a group that supports the convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal and openly embraces Marxism-Leninism. After graduating, Mara spoke at rallies held by ACT-UP, the anti-Catholic group that disrupted Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in 1989 by spitting the Eucharist on the floor."

It really shows how much he understands religion and the role it plays, doesn't it?
